Who is the wombat?
Weaving Wombat is a textile artist with a love of using natural materials. She can be found roaming the sheep farms of Iceland in search of unique yarns, on the beach in Malibu collecting driftwood or at home being cozy and experimenting with weaving, dyeing, spinning, sewing and creating unique pieces of art & functional objects.
Wombat inspirations
Born and raised in Australia, Weaving Wombat is lucky enough to be able to split her time between her home in California and visiting her extended family in Iceland. Being surrounded by such dramatic and often extreme nature, she is inspired by the sites, smells and colours of these environments to create pieces that one might discover naturally hanging from a tree in the woods, or stumble upon while exploring a waterfall. Inspired by the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, Weaving Wombat loves the perverse beauty that is found in the non perfect, slightly obscure and natural imperfections found in a hand made piece of art or usable object.
